old melbourne gaol, russell st

If you are looking for a family adventure that combines fun, learning and history then freeze - Mamma has the answer - take the kids to ‘jail’. The Old Melbourne Gaol!

This heritage listed building once and still is one of Melbourne's iconic must see places. The history is captivating for both children and adults. Mamma found herself learning a few things along the way too.

Old Melbourne Gaol is a great family friendly adventure that everyone will enjoy!

The Watch House Experience is a must, giving you first hand taste of what it is like to be arrested and locked up in the old Watch House. With her chilling smirk and her dry sense of humour the Sargent in charge was everything but nice.

School holidays include educational activities to get the little ones scavenging quietly through the cell blocks, dodging guards and searching for clues. Check out the details HERE.

There isn’t a cafe on the grounds, however you only a short walk to the food precinct of Lygon Street with lots of yummy options. There is 2hr parking around the gaol or if you are looking for a little more time head to the QV for all day parking.

Mamma's special mention: A short walk down the road and you’ll find yourself at Connie’s Italian Diner. It was the TIRAMI-SUNDAE for me.
