moonlight cinema, royal botanic gardens

When it comes to outdoor cinema in Melbourne, you head to the OG – Moonlight Cinema.

Celebrating 30 years this season, it was the first outdoor cinema of its kind in Melbourne and continues to be a favourite for family movie nights.

Set on the lawn of the Royal Botanic Gardens, amongst the trees with the city skyline as the backdrop, it’s a pretty magical spot for a summer night out.

When visiting Moonlight Cinema, there are a few seating options to choose from. You can bring your own blanket, cushions and picnic and relax in the general admission section, with bean bags available to hire if you prefer.

For a treat, head closer to the screen and enjoy a bean bag and ice cream in the Connoisseur Lounge, or upgrade to the GOLD GRASS section presented by Singapore Airlines. This premium area includes bean bags, prime viewing, express entry, and you can order food and drinks delivered straight to you. SO GOOD.

A bar and food vans are open before the movie starts, but once the film begins, it’s time to settle in and enjoy the show. There are plenty of family-friendly movies screening over the festive period and throughout summer, so be sure to check the program.

Oh, and it’s pooch-friendly too!
