the future and other fictions | exhibition @ ACMI, fed square
/Transcend the stairs in Gallery 4 at ACMI right now and you will enter an ultramodern deep dive of futurism as it’s depicted on screen. Explore costumes, poster artwork, clips, comics and innovative representations of how the future is expressed in moving images.
It’s out of this world! Plus, it just looks really cool. The aesthetics and installations are enticing and the content engaging. You have the opportunity to learn a lot from the various artists and creators featured.
Mamma says it may potentially be a little bit scary for kids younger than around 8-ish, as there are some dark, moody spaces with freakish futuristic images.
But there is a fun, creative and interactive activity space towards the end of the exhibition Mamma’s kids spent a long time at. This part is suited to all ages.
You can create an A4 collage with the black and white cutouts of images and patterns resting on an illuminated table. Then, a scanner can save as many as you want to create to your entry ticket. Your artworks can be scanned into the wall at the end of the exhibition for display, and you can print them for $10 at the gift shop. The kids got a real kick out of this!
Mamma had a great time here, and highly recommends checking it out while it’s on!
