yamamoto udon, bourke st
/The hottest new eatery in Melbourne right now has to be the delightful Yamamoto Udon. Each day, 60 servings of each the Himokawa and Sanuki udon are crafted, so you better get in early if you want to try both!
Mamma went at about 4.30pm on a Sunday and only the Himokawa was left. This is the thicker udon. It is long, thick and chewy. It goes so well with the sophisticated broth. Get it in soup or served the traditional way: cold on a bamboo basket with two types of broth to drag it through before slurping it up. Yum, yum, yum!
The Himokawa is said to be silky, wide and regal according to the website, but Mamma will have to come back another time to try that one! Along with udon, there is amazing tempura that can be ordered on the side or added to the traditional udon set, as well as starters like karaage. Their refreshing yuzu drink is something Mamma recommends!
The space is clean and bright, with bar seating on high stools, as well as tables and chairs.
