kariton sorbetes, russell st

For several years, the Filipino ice creamery Kariton Sorbetes have been building a cult following while expanding their businesses into new pockets of Melbourne.

Luckily for us city dwellers, we have our very own store in Russell St, just on the edge of Chinatown.

It’s very easy to fall in love with the Asian flavours of the gelato. Pandan is a hard one for Mamma to go past, but the fish sauce salted caramel choc top is also a top fave.

Flavours change frequently with specials added, but some staples include ube halaya, mango float and durian chiffon. Select cone or cup or go the traditional - slabs of gelato sandwiched in a milk bun - yum!

Sorbet is also on offer here and the kalamansi hinebra is frightfully fresh and zingy (and isn’t for the kids as it contains alcohol).

All the gelato and sorbet have dietary advice and you are sure to find one that’s free of gluten, nuts, soy and dairy if needed.

Take a seat on the tiny stools akin to what you’d expect on the streets in the Philippines and enjoy!
