fitzroy gardens, melbourne
/Trade the city’s hustle for nature’s hush at Fitzroy Gardens. This is the perfect place to immerse yourself in vibrant greenery right in the heart of Melbourne, where tram bells harmonise with birdsongs.
This sprawling park is a treasure trove for little explorers, and not every square inch needs to be covered to have a grand adventure. Mamma conquered just half of it, and still managed to tick off the big ticket items, plus spotted cascading fountains, a hidden waterfall, and some whimsical characters hiding on The Fairy Tree. We might have even pocketed a new favourite rock from our wander along the tranquil creek bed. Gotta be done!
Fitzroy Gardens is also home to a pint-sized Tudor Village, and Cook’s Cottage (both open to wander through with a tour group). If you’re making a beeline to the playground, the whimsy continues with giraffe swings and an epic dragon slide where big and little ones will want to zoom down its tail on repeat.
When it’s time for a pit stop, a near-by cafe is always a winner. KereKere Green is located IN Fitzroy Gardens, and is perfect for a quick refuel, and an all important smiley cookie. If you’re in the market for some iconic Melbourne memorabilia, have a gander through the visitor centre before heading up the hill to the Conservatory. This old beauty is a must see, she’s been open to the public for nearly 100 years and it’s worth admiring the pristinely curated florals and lush ferns.
Whether you’re up for a leisurely stroll, or you’re packing a picnic for a day worth of frolicking, there’s no shortage of places to explore in the Gardens. We’ll definitely be back soon to keep the adventure going.
