/Bugs! Bugs! Dinosaurs and more Bugs! If you have a little Archaeologist, an Entomologist or a little one who loves everything about learning, then the Melbourne Museum is for you.
Mamma says Melbourne Museum is world class and we love it.
Let the journey begin on the ground floor: Some of Mamma’s favourite exhibits like the Dinosaur walk are front and centre here with 10 huge prehistoric skeletons on display. Visiting Horridus - the ancient Triceratops is an absolute MUST.
The Bugs Alive exhibit is one of our favourites, shhhhhh…can you hear a world of insects? Yes, this is the creepy crawly spot where you will find spiders, snails and other invertebrates and ground floor is also where you will find the impressive First Peoples exhibit. Filled with indigenous heritage, Bunjlaka is a moving display of aboriginal culture and history.
Let’s move upstairs for some more resent history, the Melbourne Story exhibit includes Melbournian icons from our past and present. Including sitting on an old Big Dipper seat from Luna Park plus 1200 irreplaceable items from our history.
The heart of the Melbourne Museum is where you will find the gorgeous Forest Secrets exhibits. This is another one of Mamma’s favourites and we usually spend a bit of time here. It is easy to forget you are in the middle of the city here as the sounds of nature surround you. A moment of calm to breathe.
The Children's Gallery is also A MUST DO while you are visiting the Museum. Aimed at kids under 5, it is full of colour, spots climb, build, tinker and have fun - inside and out.
Oh and we LOVE all the extra School Holiday fun happening here.
the nitty gritty
Carlton Gardens is only just there behind the big colourful square wall and is worth the 'play' before heading home.
