children's play: ragnar kjartansson @ ngv, melbourne
/Looking for some free family-friendly fun in the city? Children’s Play by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson is now on at the Children’s Gallery inside the NGV!
This interactive exhibition celebrates theatrics in the form of opulent feasts, performance and the art of play. Armed with a complimentary sketch book upon entry, little ones are invited to draw what they see. From the decorative cake displays that adorn multiple tables to the theatrical backdrop that sets the scene across the gallery’s back wall - Children’s Play is a feast for the senses and a space to encourage creation.
The theatrical backdrop includes several scenes that invite visitors to get involved, create stories and invent their own adventures. With props and costumes available to use, kids can transport themselves to another land through imaginative play.
Or build a cake sculpture using the colourful cushion display and watch on as the kids topple them over with glee! Whatever you choose to do, Children’s Play is a creative feast for the young and young at heart!
