Metro Tunnel Stations are now OPEN, Melbourne

It’s finally here! The Metro Tunnel stations officially opened today, and it honestly makes getting around Melbourne so much easier. If you’re heading into the city with the kiddos these holidays, this is a great time to give the new line a go and check out what’s changed.

There are five new underground stations:

  • Arden

  • Parkville

  • State Library

  • Town Hall

  • Anzac

They look fresh, modern and actually make the whole trip feel smoother and lots of fun!

So what’s different? The big change is that if you’re on the Sunbury, Cranbourne or Pakenham lines, your train now runs through the new tunnel — so you’ll get a quicker, smoother trip straight into the city and arrive at the new stations instead of the old lop and through a brand-new tunnel under the city. That means:

  • Quicker trips

  • Less crowds (and more space!)

  • A much cleaner and easier connection into the CBD

State Library Station now links directly into Melbourne Central, so you still pop up in the same part of the city — just in a much nicer, more spacious station. And down St Kilda Road, Anzac Station has a handy new underpass that takes you straight to the Shrine of Remembrance and the Royal Botanic Gardens without dodging traffic. Perfect for little legs, prams and anyone who doesn’t want to cross a busy road.

OH and free weekend travel - Public transport is free every Saturday and Sunday from 30 November 2025 to 1 February 2026.

That’s trains, trams and buses right across Victoria. if you are curious about the new stations, this is the time to go have a look.

Just check the PTV app, hop on like normal and the new stations will show up in the timetables. No special steps — just jump on and explore.
It’s the perfect excuse for a little city adventure with the kiddos
