game worlds @ ACMI, fed square

LOADING…. Game Worlds is a playable exhibition on now at ACMI! Take the kids through the eras of popular games and related tech you will remember from your own childhood, that you can actually play!

The Sims, Neo Pets, World of Warcraft and loads more! Start at the first computer ever made and level up as you discover games you’ve never heard of and revisit some classics.

Wander back and forth through the exhibition trying as many games as you like. The staff are very good at reminding visitors to take turns with the games so you don’t have to wait for a turn.

Each day, talks from ACMI staff are scheduled for different games, so look for the signage indicating what time a talk will happen. Mamma learnt about a very interesting game out of South Africa called Terra Nil through one of these talks. In Terra Nil, you regenerate wasteland to a thriving ecosystem using accurate scientific methods. The kids loved this one!

Mamma overheard a teen asking her mum “what’s that?!” puzzled by one of Apple’s early laptops, the iBook, (even though it looks almost exactly like a laptop still). But this Mamma was trotting about with Gen Alpha’s feeling really tech-savvy teaching them how to operate a desktop mouse, and the knack for blowing out the dust from a Super Nintendo game brick. IYKYK!

A great day out for the whole family, this one!
